Barack Obama the president of the United States and in my opinion an example of a great communicator. He has the ability to connect with his audience by being able to identify with average Americans. He delivers his speeches with confidence and self-belief. During his political debates he seems to be very comfortable with the audience. He took each question from the audience and gave a very personable response. I think this makes him a good communicator because he makes the listeners believe in his vision and inspires them. Although he is highly ridiculed, Obama was successful in making the audience (people of America) believe in his message of change.
He understands that it is not only enough to know your facts but it is also essential that you deliver them while holding the audience attention. He also uses common sense and does not swear or tell jokes during his speeches or while answering questions. He thinks about what he wants to say before speaking, and doesn't interrupt or start talking while someone else is still speaking to him. I think that he respects the opinions of others by asking for their input and he repeats back what he heard in insure clarity of what he heard. Overall he understands the importance of words.
I would model my communication skills like Mr. Obama because I would want my audience to feel that I can identity with them. If I could be a positive influence and inspire others with the words I use I think that would be wonderful.
Deon, I have to agree with you that President Obama is a competent communicator. While I do not agree with many of his politics (Or that of his predecessors for that matter) I feel he is very well spoken and composed than former President Bush.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Jennifer with everything she said, but we are talking about his communication skills which for me are one of his best assets. He knows how to involve the audience by making eye contact, his body language, and he speaks with the assurance that the audience is paying attention.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama, was the first person I thought about when I read our assignment. I do think he is a great orator but the only thing that I feel about (all) politicians they speak in circles sometimes. The never clearly affirm what they are trying to convey. I think this happens because of the restrictions on what they can and can't say. He does speak clearly and concisely. And when he does deliver a speech you can tell each word is carefully chosen.
ReplyDeleteDeon,
ReplyDeleteYou are correct; Barack Obama is a great communicator. He always makes his audience feel that they are important. He consistently shows respect for his competitors and he is very distinguishing in his responses. He does not use antics or vile attacks to demean the character of his opponents. I thought about President Obama before I did my blog; however, I wanted to choose someone I knew personally. When the president speaks, he wows the audience with his approach; he makes us laugh, cry, and he brings out the best and worst in people. I say this because, either one is going to agree or love him; or his words will make others hate themselves for being selfish and bias. He allows the listeners to think critically about the words he is speaking; this allows them to make an informed decision on what he is saying. In my experience, I have seen several presidents and none of them have the poise, determination, or the ability to wow others with their words, as President Obama does. You made a great choice and I would mimic many of his communication skills in order to improve myself personally and professionally. These skills will allow me to make others feel important, needed, and wanted.
