The Global Children’s Initiative through Harvard University

As I reviewed the Center of the Developing Child Harvard University website, http://developingchild.harvard.edu/activities/global_initiative/, I gained lost of insight about the work being done by the Center through the Global Children’s Initiative.  As an early childhood professional the information was very inspiring to me.  Their dedication to the well-being of young child across the globe is very admirable.

The center has a Global Children's Initiative which is committed to global work that represents both an acknowledgement of moral responsibility to meet the needs of all children and a critical investment in the roots of economic productivity, positive health outcomes, and strong civil society in all nations, from the poorest to the most affluent. The Center generates, translates, and applies knowledge in the service of improving life outcomes for children in the United States and throughout the world. Specifically, the Center is committed to:

*Building a unified science of health, learning, and behavior  to explain the early roots of
  lifelong impairments

*Leading the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative program and practice models
  that reduce preventable disparities in well-being

*Catalyzing the implementation of effective, science-based public policies through strategic
   relationships and knowledge transfer and

*Preparing future and current leaders to build and leverage knowledge  that promotes the healthy
  development of children and families and brings high returns to all of society.

Guided by these strategic objectives, the Global Children’s Initiative has begun to build a portfolio of activities in three domains:

* early childhood development;
* child mental health; and
* children in crisis and conflict situations.

Each of these domains is being guided by a designated faculty working group that will facilitate continuing cross-disciplinary collaboration; design and implement new projects; and engage additional faculty, students, and collaborators beyond the Harvard community.
